I have been privileged to serve at Bright Hope Pregnancy Support Center for over nine years. I first taught an Anger Management class through the encouragement of Joan Sergi, then Client Services Director at the Allentown Center. Subsequently, I received training under Joan to be a Client Advocate which is my present role. Joan was an encouraging, compassionate and very effective leader – a great role model to both volunteers and clients!
It has been a joy to meet and interact with the various women, men and children who have come through the doors of Bright Hope. One particular woman stands out in my mind. She came in pregnant, with her head held down and barely speaking in a voice that could be heard and understood. She displayed despondency and hopelessness as she relayed her story to me. Through the help of Bright Hope, she is now a very confident woman, pursuing CNA certification and working
a full-time job while parenting two young daughters. One would never know she is the same young woman who walked through the Bright Hope door years ago.
Truly she is a picture of so many women who come to Bright Hope, fearful and anxious, not knowing what to expect or what to do in a very difficult situation. Thankfully, God has kept the Bright Hope doors open, the only such center in Allentown (Lehigh Valley?) to bring hope and compassion and help to young women like this one.
Volunteering under the leadership of Stacy Stone, the current Director of Client Services, continues to be a worthwhile endeavor. Stacy is one of the godliest women I know and she leads with great wisdom and understanding. I encourage anyone interested in volunteering at Bright Hope, to call and take the first step. You will be glad you did!
